
In response to the recent death of a Nepali student at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, authorities have arrested five individuals, including three high-ranking officials and two security guards. The detained officials are Director General of Human Resources Sibananda Mishra, Director of Administration Pratap Kumar Chamupaty, and Director of Hostels Sudhir Kumar Rath. The arrests follow allegations of misconduct and excessive force by university security personnel, which have sparked public outcry and demands for accountability. In light of these events, the Odisha government has established a high-level committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and the university’s handling of the situation. This committee is led by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, with members including the Principal Secretary of the Women & Child Development Department and the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department.
