Mike Benz, a former senior official in the U.S. State Department and speechwriter for Donald Trump at the White House, has made serious allegations. He claims that USAID funded efforts to influence India’s 2019 elections and attempted to shape media narratives against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Benz, anti-Modi campaigns within the U.S. government were orchestrated by various factions deeply embedded in the State Department.
Benz has sparked controversy by asserting that the U.S. has been interfering in the internal politics of several countries, including India and Bangladesh. He accuses agencies within U.S. foreign policy circles—such as USAID, think tanks, and major tech companies—of trying to manipulate online discussions to influence the 2019 Indian general elections.
According to Benz, these efforts were aimed at working against the interests of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He further claims that multiple tactics were used to meddle in the internal affairs of India and Bangladesh, including media influence, social media censorship, and funding opposition campaigns.
