Bhubaneswar:
A 20-year-old Nepalese student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room on Thursday. The student, a Computer Science B.Tech candidate, was discovered in Room 111 of the ladies’ hostel, police confirmed.
This incident marks the second suspected suicide of a Nepalese student at KIIT in less than three months, following the February 16, 2025 death of Prakriti Lamsal. Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh stated that initial findings suggest suicide, although the student’s identity has not been formally released.
There has been no official response from KIIT authorities regarding the incident. The back-to-back deaths have raised concerns within the student community, especially among international students.
