New Delhi, May 2

A powerful dust storm followed by heavy rainfall swept through Delhi and NCR on Thursday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a woman and her three children in Dwarka after a tree collapsed on their shelter. The storm caused widespread disruption to air travel, with flights being delayed or diverted to Jaipur and Ahmedabad. According to FlightRadar, arrival delays averaged 21 minutes, while departures were pushed back by over an hour.

Waterlogging was reported across major areas such as Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Khanpur, Minto Road, and Dwarka, leading to traffic congestion and safety concerns. Several trees were uprooted, and property damage is being assessed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the capital through Saturday, forecasting thunderstorms, gusty winds up to 80 kmph, and continued rainfall. The storm brought temperatures down to 19.8°C, offering temporary relief from rising heat. IMD also expects above-normal rainfall across north India in May, potentially reducing extreme heat conditions seen in previous years.
